Medication Adherence Score Hopes To Lessen Improper Drug Use

Nearly 75 percent of Americans don’t follow their doctor’s instructions for taking prescription drugs and one in three never even fill their prescriptions. Improper use of medication results in 125,000 patient deaths each year, according to the National Consumers League. Now FICO, a company known for credit scores, has developed a Medication Adherence Score that will help predict which patients are at risk of incorrectly using prescription drugs. The score is calculated based on publicly available data and factors in job stability, homeownership, marital status, and social support. FICO says the scores will be used to identify patients who could benefit from follow-up phone calls and reminders about proper use of their medication. The company expects to have 10 million patients scored over the next year. More here.
