According to a survey of women from the Commonwealth Fund, more than half said the rising cost of health care was keeping them from getting the treatments, procedures, and prescriptions that they need. But there are a number of ways to reduce the cost of your health-care needs that can be easily applied to everyday life. For example, 43 percent of patients were found to have undergone unnecessary tests while at routine doctor’s visits, according to a study in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. When your doctor orders any tests, such as a MRI or CT scan, ask why they’re being done and whether it’ll cost you extra. If they are routine screenings, the test may be avoidable.
