Living Independently Requires A Practical Plan

Living independently can become a challenge as we grow older. But planning in advance and addressing the practicalities of everyday living can help lessen the obstacles and issues that arise from living on our own. Seniors should have a meeting with a family member or caregiver to discuss their daily routine. Planning for what will happen if they are no longer able to drive themselves or handle household tasks will reduce uncertainty and anxiety. Also, discuss how to cover the costs of in-home care if necessary and what resources are available to help with managing finances. Consider hiring an occupational therapist to take a tour of their home and recommend ways to reduce hazards and make it easier to navigate and maintain. Planning for contingencies earlier rather than later increases the likelihood of continuing to live independently successfully. More tips here.
