Drinking Beet Juice Can Help Lower Blood Pressure

According to a study from Queen Mary University of London, drinking a glass of beet juice can lower blood pressure to healthy levels within 24 hours. Study author Amrita Ahluwalia said the nitrate content in beet juice is the key to its beneficial effects and just 250ml of juice is needed to help lower blood pressure. The research also found nitrates were more effective the higher the participant’s blood pressure was at the beginning of the study. Nitric oxide helps muscle tissue to relax and increases blood flow. Other foods rich in nitrates include spinach, lettuce, cabbage, carrots, and whole beets. More here.
