Mainstream Medicine Increasingly Adopting Anti-Aging Treatments

The desire to slow or reverse the effects of aging have led, throughout history, to many questionable treatments and theories promising to turn back the clock. Recently, though, a growing number of mainstream doctors have begun offering their patients anti-aging treatments, such as human growth hormone, supplements, and specialized diet and exercise regiments, despite a lack of recognition from the medical establishment or proven clinical evidence. Critics say there is a danger that anti-aging techniques, such as taking supplements or hormones, are based in hope rather than evidence and risk giving patients the assumption that their doctor’s advice is both proven and tested. On the other hand, anti-aging advocates believe they can be more proactive than a regular doctor by helping their patients adopt healthier habits such as exercise, nutrition, and other preventive measures.
